An Effortless Garden Affair

Smith Farm Gardens is one of our favorite venues to work at, and this August wedding reflects exactly why. Beyond the beautifully kept grounds, the heart of the experience comes from the people behind the property. Owners Travis and Peggy have built something rooted in care and consistency. Their presence sets the tone for the day and creates an environment where couples, guests, and vendors feel supported from start to finish.

Smith Farm Gardens

Summer weddings in Connecticut bring heat, especially in August. Smith Farm Gardens offers natural advantages with open breezes and shaded areas throughout the property, which guests feel right away. Even so, this day was warm, and we planned accordingly. One of our Rose Rocc assistants stayed with the couple during portraits with water and shade while also helping the photographer gather family members ahead of time. These moments matter. They protect the couple’s energy and allow the day to move smoothly without stress or rushing.

This celebration was intentionally intimate, with fewer than eighty guests. The focus stayed on the people present rather than production or formality. Design choices reflected both the season and the setting. White hydrangeas echoed the gardens and brought a clean, cohesive feel to the day. One of our favorite details was the welcome table. A round table anchored the space, topped with a full floral arrangement, while escort cards spiraled gently around the edge. A coastal card box sat alongside a travel coffee table book used as the guest book.

When it comes to guest sign ins, we always guide couples toward options they will want to keep and use. A travel book becomes something personal and lasting, not something tucked away. Each signature becomes part of a piece they already enjoy, bringing memories of the day into their everyday life.

Dinner followed a relaxed approach with food trucks rather than a traditional seated meal. Guests moved freely, chose what appealed to them, and enjoyed the evening at their own pace. Dessert continued that laid back feeling with an ice cream truck that guests gravitated toward as the night unfolded.

Planning also included thoughtful support around family dynamics. These conversations happen well before the wedding day. We help couples think through expectations, timing, and how to protect private moments together. On the day itself, we gently guide family members where they need to be so the couple can stay present with each other.

What we loved most about this Smith Farm Gardens wedding was the intention behind every choice. The day felt honest, thoughtful, and deeply centered on the people gathered to celebrate. It was a joy to be part of it.
